One person was killed, five injured in a Soweto collision

JOHANNESBURG – One person was killed and five others were injured when three vehicles collided at Elias Motsoaledi Drive in Dobsonville, Soweto in Johannesburg on Saturday night, paramedics said.

Medics from ER24 and other services arrived at the scene at around 8:30 a.m. when they found two cars and a minibus taxi involved in the collision, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said on Sunday.

"Unfortunately, one of the drivers of light motor vehicles suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. The taxi driver was found trapped and had to be released by ER24 rescue personnel."

Four passengers from taxis and other cars were treated for moderate injuries before being transported to Leratong Hospital for further treatment. The exact situation surrounding the accident is unknown, said Vermaak.
