Police arrested 20 suspected of unlawful mining in Matheslesville, Roadport, on Tuesday.
These arrests have led to 30 arrests since police operations aimed at illegal extraction in the area began a week ago.
"The integrated deployment of law enforcement officers during operations has seized equipment believed to be used in illegal mining. Bars and other illegal structures have been destroyed and illegal electrical connections and water pipes have been excluded," a spokesman for Gauteng police Kai Makubele said.
Makubele said combating organized crime remains a priority for Gauteng's provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mavella, and therefore operations targeting all forms of organized crime and trade unions.
The arrested suspects will appear in Roadport Magistrates' Court soon, Mahubele said.
