The Ministry of Health claims that on February 8, six deaths of dengue fever were confirmed.
Five of these deaths occurred in Kingston and St. Andrew and Portland. All victims are children under the age of 14.
This was revealed by Portfolio Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton in updated information on this afternoon.
Tufton said that on February 8th, his ministry classified 1166 suspects, alleged or confirmed dengue cases with dates starting in 2019, while in 2018 there were 1,023 suspected and confirmed cases.
"The weekly number of cases seems to be paid until we have to wait another two or three weeks to make sure it is a reassuring sign," he told Parliament.
The minister said the greatest number of suspected / alleged / confirmed cases of dengue for 2019 have so far been reported by St. Katerina, with 313 people.
Following are Kingston and St. Andrew, with 177; St Ann 121; St Mary 75; St. Thomas Six; St James 54 and Clarendon 49.
