JOHANNESBURG – The Democratic Alliance (DA) confirmed on Friday that discussions on the future mayor of Tshvan municipality are under way following the request by the economic freedom fighters (EDF) to take over the town hall in this city.

The leader of the DA coalition Gautheng Solli Mismanga said the party's federal leadership met with the Red Berets and other opposition political parties on the issue.

"This is something that has already been discussed at national level. The federal leadership meets with the leaders of the EDF and other opposition parties or parties that will help bring the coalition government closer together. "

Msimanga served as mayor of Tshwane for two years after the 2016 municipal elections, and his predecessor Stevens Mokgalapa took over in February.

On Thursday, the EDF leader Julius Malema said that while his party would not call Mokgalapa's mistrust as part of sharing power, it will insist that a representative be elected to the post.

– Let's do it in a way that will not be destructive. If the prosecution refuses, these other options will come in. But we have talked about and do not see any hostility regarding the possibility of sharing power. We will have a mayor in Tshvan and the prosecution will have a MMC, "Malema said.

The EDF leader also said his party would join the government in the city of Johannesburg as members of the mayoral commission.
