Five in 10,000 live with HIV / AIDS in China, which is low compared to other countries, according to the National Health Commission (CNS).

Sexual relations are the main channel of infection in China, the health authority said in a press release released Friday.

However, China has managed to prevent the spread of HIV through blood transfusions, with almost zero recorded cases of infection and other blood products, CNS added.

Wang Bin, an employee of the Disease Prevention and Control Committee, said HIV transmission related to the use of an injecting drug was also controlled, and cases reported in 2017 showed a decline of 44.5. compared to 2012

In terms of mother-to-child transmission rates, it drops from 7.1% in 2012 to 4.9% in 2017, Wang added.

The Commission has stepped up its efforts to promote the HIV test for infections, said Wang, who said that a total of 200 million people in China had HIV tests last year, twice as much as in 2012.

80.4% of people living with HIV / AIDS in China have received antiviral therapy in 2017, and the success rate is over 90%, officials said.

Noting that prevention and treatment are still serious tasks, Wang said the CNS will step up its efforts to alert and educate people at risk of HIV infection, to promote one-stop-shop services for testing, counseling, diagnosis and treatment . , and mobilize social forces, including companies, funding agencies, health organizations and volunteers, to participate in the fight against the disease.

According to a joint assessment by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, UNAIDS and the World Health Organization by the end of this year there will be about 1.25 million people with HIV / AIDS and 80,000 new infections each year.
