Argentine wine day: basic data on the national beverage – Telam



Agribusiness Secretary and Argentine Wine Corporation (COVIAR), in order to give value to national wine production and to encourage the consumption of our territory, created an action plan which, through a resolution announced on 24 November Argentine National Wine Day,
The plan is to develop mass media campaigns to promote Argentine wine; take gastronomic days that distribute Argentine wine in the main cities of the country and encourage the development of wine tourism in different wine regions of Argentina.

It came as a regional economy

Across Argentina there are more than 900 active wineries.

92% of wine producers have up to 25 hectares and are the ones that concentrate 55% of the total arable land area in the country.

Vinciculture is an emblematic regional economy that has the broadest territorial deployment. It is essential to promote this economic activity, made up of mainly small and medium-sized producers.

Argentine wine is a value of our civilization and an essential element of Argentine identity that contributes to the socio-economic sustainability of the productive provinces that have a wide variety of climates and soils that make each region a unique homeland.

In vitivinultura, more than 106,000 direct jobs and 280 indirect indirect jobs are generated.

The vinicticola complex is one of the 10 major export chains in the country, along with nearly 500 exporters who come with their wines in 127 countries.

The main markets for Argentine wines are: USA, UK, Canada, Brazil and the Netherlands.

Kindness and varieties of wine

In Argentina, 223 585 vineyards are grown. Malbec (21%), Cherry (10%), Crillon Grande (8%), Cabernet Sauvignon (8%), Sirach (7%), Pedro Gimenez (6%). ,

In 2016, 4.8% of total domestic wines sold are sparkling wines. There are 39 medium and large enterprises selling sparkling wines and 83 small businesses selling up to 100 hectoliters of sparkling wine each year.

Argentina exports wine products to more than 127 destinations. 74% of shipments abroad correspond to fractionated wines. Argentine wine is a product of high added value.

Law No. 25,849 established COVIAR – a public-private partnership whose mission is to consolidate domestic and foreign markets and integrate chain stakeholders.

Wine provokes a cultural way of moderate consumption, consolidated by the social habits typical of Argentine identity.

Our country ranks seventh in the world per capita consumption of wine, currently 22 liters of wine per capita per year.

Argentina is sixth in wine production with 11.8 million hectoliters and seventh on the implanted surface, with more than 230 thousand hectares.
