Electricity demand dropped 3.4 percent year-over-year in October last year, the lowest estimate for this month in 2012, Electricity Development Foundation (FUNDELEZ) announced yesterday.
In the same sense, the consumption of Buenos Aires and the suburbs of Buenos Aires showed a significant decline in both Edesur (-3.1%) and Edenor (-4%), while the rest of the country registered the same trend: -3, 3%, according to preliminary data from the Cammesa Electricity Market Company.
Fundelleck explained that the decline in demand is in residential, commercial and industrial consumers across the country: October is the second-lowest consumer price throughout the year and the lowest value for this month since 2012 in nominal terms.
Thus, after a quarter (June, July and August) with an increase of 5.8% on an annual basis, the sharpest two-month decline (September to October) was recorded in percent (-4.4%), while demand for the first ten months of 2018 increased by 1.6% compared to the same period in 2017.
In October 2018, Total Net Electricity Market (EEM) net demand is 9 875.1 GWh; with an annual decrease of 3.4%; however, had a monthly growth of 1% compared to September 2018.
Of the total consumption in October, 40% (3,928.8 GWh) belong to housing demand, while the commercial sector represents 29% (2920.4 GWh) and the industrial sector – 31% (3,025.9 GWh).
Also, compared with the previous year, housing demand fell by -1.3%, while demand in trade fell by -4%, while industrial demand fell even further: -5.7%.
However, after ten months of the year, electricity demand grew by 1.6%.
In terms of consumption by country, in October 18 there were provinces and companies that dropped: Catamarca (-46%), San Luis (-12%), San Juan (-11%), Chubut (-7 Jujuy (-7%), La Rioja (-7%), Tucuman (-6%), Cordoba (-5%), Santiago del Estero (-5% 3%), Entre Ríos (-3% , Santa Fe (-2%), La Pampa (-1%), Mendoza (-1%).
In turn, there were 7 promotions in electrical requirements of MEM in Chaco (9%), Santa Cruz (9%), Corrientes (3%), Formosa (3%), Misiones (3%), Edea (1%), among others.
Meanwhile, Río Negro and Salta have kept their consumption levels as compared to last year, Fundelletz explained.
He also indicated that the average temperature in October was 17.8 ° C, while in the same month of the previous year it was 18.2 ° C and the historical – 17.3 ° C.
In this context, the local generation shows a decrease compared to October 2017, which is 10 371 GWh for this month versus 10 587 GWh for the same period of the previous year.
