EGuangzhou Hall is the second in the interests of the Chinese market, behind Beijing or Beijing Hall which is popular, but this year is more relevant, especially for our region: besides the presentation of the twelfth generation of the Toyota Corolla sedan, Volkswagen is also one of the protagonists, with Tharu's presentation, his new C-SUV which will later have a destiny and national origin.
Also known as the Tarek Project – it remains to determine which will be the name chosen for our region – this SUV will be positioned above the new T-Cross, but below the Tiguan Room, offering capacity for 5 passengers and dimensions similar to the previous generation Tiguan .
Like all new Volkswagen products, this was developed on the dry MQB platform, not the simplified A0 variant that gave rise to Polo / Virtus / T-Cross, etc. – and when produced at the Pacheco General plant – we estimate that this will occur around 2020-, will replacing the Suran assembly line, which reflects the current trend of replacing minivans with SUVs.
Aesthetically, this shows some features that have been seen in other brand SUVs, such as the Tiguan or Atlas, especially in the front sector, with rectangular headlights and clear straight lines. In profiles and behind, on the other hand, it reminds us of other models from the VAG Group, such as Seat Ateca. In terms of dimensions, Tharu has a length of 4.45 meters, width of 1.84 m, height of 1.63 m, and wheelbase of 2.68 m, while luggage offers a capacity of 455 liters. Vale recalled that, according to the director of the VW Argentina, the Argentine version could accept some modifications in its design "to suit the tastes of the region".
What is missing is the interior design, although we must say that it does not bring a surprise: it is similar to the latest product launched by the German brand, focusing on technology and connectivity. In this sense, 100% configurable digital Active Info Display instrument, multimedia system with touch screen and compatibility for smartphones are highlighted. Air vent settings, AC controls, steering wheel and selector are identical to those found in Vento, Virtus or T-Cross, although with greater care in the settings, something more subtle.
Mechanically, this engine will adopt the same engine as most of the current Volkswagen range: 1.4 TSI gasoline engine 150 hp and 2.0 in this case – 185 hp, paired with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG automatic transmission . In addition, there will be a variant with simple or inseparable 4Motion traction.
In the absence of at least one year for local landings, it is still too early to predict what characteristics will be maintained and which will not be in regional variants.
