D.K. Metcalf and the combination of freak and technique – The Athletic

As an Ole Miss sophomore, D.K. Metcalf measured in 6 feet 3, 224 pounds to go with a 11-1 wide jump, 37.5-inch vertical and 4.46 40-yard dash, earning a spot on the Freaks List. This week, shirtless pictures of the absolutely shredded Rebels wideout have gone viral and backed up to his Freak status.

The son of former Chicago Bears offensive lineman Terrence Metcalf, a former standout hurdler and triple jumper on his high school track and field team, was the kind of talent who gave rival SEC coaches headaches. Seeing the buzz about Metcalf (below, left) reminded me of a story about how he helped drive home a key coaching point for Alabama staff.
