Diabetes, one more reason to take care of yourself

This is World Diabetes Day, and Rouyn-Noranda Diabetes wants to uncover this chronic disease.

Type 1 diabetes is caused by the pancreas, which does not provide enough insulin to circulate glucose, therefore sugar, in the blood.

People who have it must inject insulin several times a day. He was diagnosed in childhood or early adulthood.

Type 2 diabetes is developed in adulthood because of poor lifestyle habits, such as poor diet, lack of exercise or socio-economic factors.

Rouyn-Noranda Diabetes Administrator, Anne-Marie Trépanier, has lived with type 1 diabetes for 23 years.

He saw his illness as a message to treat him.

"The better we eat, the more we move, the easier it is to control living conditions. Of course, insulin is always the number one solution. This also brings us precision, every day, we have to monitor several times a day with sugar, insulin, drugs "

– Anne-Marie Trépanier

Make as many people aware as possible

Rouyn-Noranda Diabetes has 240 members. The organization also offers support services, conferences and camps for children with diabetes in the region.

Anne-Marie Trépanier hopes for a child in the coming months, a difficult pregnancy that requires more power to control her diabetes.

The young woman added that World Day also serves to raise awareness.

"We really want to tell them about this disease, to make them talk as much as possible because the more we talk about it, the more people will realize this disease, [ils] maybe take care of them. We are fortunate enough, in this region, to be surrounded by the best teams. "

– Anne-Marie Trépanier

To mark the day, Rouyn-Noranda Diabetes invites you to use blue to support the cause and share your photos on social networks with the hashtag #diabeteRN. Various prizes are up for grabs.

World Diabetes Day is celebrated on November 14 of each year as a tribute to Frederick Banting, the scientist who discovered insulin.

Two days of screening are planned in the coming days, November 16 at the Proxim Pharmacy Côté, Goulet and Savard in downtown Rouyn-Noranda and November 19 at the Brunet pharmacy on Place Rouanda.
