They found 240 new cases of AIDS virus – Diseases

240 new cases of AIDS infected have been detected since the beginning of the year so far. This was announced by Dr. Tonka Varleva, Director of the Program "Prevention and Control of HIV / AIDS" at the Ministry of Health, writes "Monitor".

With them the total number of seropositive people from 1983, when the first case was established in Bulgaria, they are just over 2,700 people, Dr. Virleva added.

According to her, the newly discovered cases are incomparably less than in most European countries. Last year, 242 people were diagnosed with the AIDS virus for the same period.

Nearly 79 million people have been infected with HIV since 35 years ago. Over 35 million died of AIDS-related development.

Data show that the most vulnerable age groups are young people who are already beginning to lead a sex life from 15 to 19 years and people in active age from 20 to 44 years of age.

Our country is well versus other countries with regard to the infection. It is 5.7 per 100,000 in our country, while in other countries it is 2.8 per 100,000 people, she said, and recalled that retrovirus treatment is provided free of charge in Bulgaria.

In 1996, three-component antiretroviral therapy was introduced, thanks to which the life of the infected patients increased by more than 20 years. Factors that interfere with treatment are alcohol or high levels of stress, for example.

Approximately BGN 20,000 comes from the treatment of one infected with the AIDS virus per year. Depending on its condition and the dose and combination of antiretroviral therapy, the amount may vary, but only marginally. At BGN 300,000, the treatment rate of one infected for 15-20 years is the same as the survival rate of the HIV virus.

Influenza-like symptoms two weeks after infection suggest infection, reminded doctors. In the next five to eight, even ten years, it is asymptomatic. When the virus reaches a higher level in the body, frequent concomitant infections with other diseases begin, such as the fungus being the most common.

Free and anonymous AIDS virus tests will be conducted by November 30 in 27 cities across the country. They are part of the European Week of HIV testing and viral hepatitis. Testing and consultations will be in the towns of Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kardzhali, Kyustendil, Lovech, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Pleven, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen and Yambol.
