Changes introduced for parental leave

Changes introduced by the provincial government on Wednesday will show that mothers can take 19 weeks of maternity leave by increasing the previous week.

78 total weeks of leave will be available to new mothers or may be shared between parents. Parental leave was also extended from 34 to 59 weeks, excluding 19-week maternity leave.

If the parent decides to grant the entire leave or collects an occupational insurance, the parental leave will increase from 37-63 weeks.

Also reported by the government, workers will be allowed a 17-week leave to care for critically ill adult family members, as well as 10 days of interpersonal forced leave for survivors of sexual abuse.
