CONCACAF denies Ottawa Fury's penalty to play at USL next season – The Athletic

CONCACAF informs Ottawa that the confederation will not punish the USL Championship for the 2019 season.

The decision, which was announced on Wednesday morning, came as a surprise to the rage. The club was endorsed in November by the Canadian Football Association (CSA) to play across the US Army's second division. Ottawa chose to stay in the USL in 2019 instead of signing the inaugural season of the newly established Canadian Premier League.

CONCACAF initially notified the CSA of its decision and the national association forwarded it to Fury. A Letter from SAA President Steven Reed to Ottawa said CONKACAO takes the position because the Canadian Champions League is scheduled to play in 2019 so Ottawa no longer qualifies as an "extraordinary circumstance" to play in a cross-border league.
