J.D. Irving Ltd. looking to hire 727 full time employees at P.E.I. over the next three years, according to the company's forecasts published on Thursday.
In addition to full-time employees, J.D.I. also wants to hire 60 students on the island during this time.
Mary Keith, Vice President of Communications with J.D.I. said about 490 jobs would be in Cavendish Farm to accommodate retirees and normal turnover.
About 300 of the jobs will be in the Kent Building Supplies stores.
Supply, operations and logistics, as well as retail are the main professions that the company seeks to fill the P.E.I.
"From an island perspective, we really value the partnerships we have with educational institutions, which are the great source of the next generation of people who will work in operations," said Keith. "We work closely with Holland College as well as with UPEI … Our recruitment staff go out and tour in different campuses over the next few months."
P.E.I. jobs are part of the company's overall plans to hire 7,500 full-time employees and another 2,500 students in Canada and the United States.
Of these jobs, 89% are in Atlantic Canada.
In U.S., J.D.I. plans to hire 322 full-time workers and 120 students.
