Metrolinx forbids workers in safety-conscious positions to use a pleasure-free pot

Metrolinx has revised its fitness for work and will now prohibit all employees in "safety-conscious positions" from consuming cannabis, whether at work or not.

The previous policy announced just prior to cannabis legalization in the autumn stated that all employees should be able to "safely and acceptably perform certain duties without restrictions arising from (but not limited to) alcohol, drugs and / or drugs."

However, the policy does not specifically prohibit employees from consuming legitimate cannabis for recreation when they are at a distance.

In a memorandum sent to staff, published on Friday by Toronto Star, Metrolinx President and CEO Phil Wester said that all employees in safety-conscious positions would be "forbidden to use cannabis for recreation and / or cannabis products, whether they are included or not. From 1 February.

It is unclear how many of the approximately 3,700 Metrolinx employees are working in safety-conscious positions, although the policy is likely to affect bus and coach operators GO and GO.

Metrolinx does not have a random drug and alcohol testing program similar to that used by TTC.

This says its policies allow for drug and alcohol testing if it is found that an employee in a safety-sensitive position may be "unfit for work" or if a critical incident occurs.

Cannabis cultivation is legal in Canada since October 17th.
