MILWAUKEE – Oprah Winfrey's mother, Wernita Lee, died at the age of 83.
A spokeswoman for Winfrey on Monday issued a statement stating that Lee had died at her home in Milwaukee on November 22. The spokesman said that private funeral services were carried out. There are no other details.
Lee was a teenager when she gave birth to Winfrey in Mississippi in 1954. They moved to Milwaukee when Winfrey was six.
Lee was featured in the "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 1990.
Lee also survived another daughter, Patricia Amanda and four grandchildren. It was preceded by a son, Jeffrey, and a daughter, Patricia.
