This was the 17th murder of the city for the year.

In the middle of the evening, about seven police cruisers were grouped around a part of the parking lot at the northern end of the mall, between the CIBC bank and the Mucho Burrito restaurant.

The area was closed with yellow tape, but the shops themselves were open and the buyers were still busy.

One warehousekeeper said he saw the police scan the ground near the bank with lights as if looking for shells.

Store staff near the scene, however, said he had not seen anything from the shooting. All the windows of these shops face east to Bank Street and it looks like the shooting is right around the corner and from there.

Part of the parking lot at the South Keys Mall is blocked, and Ottawa police officers are investigating shooting that happened there Friday night, November 23, 2018. Tom Spears / Postmedia.
