Today There are many car makers working on charging systems for high-power electric cars, which will allow a much faster load in the future. These projects will be of great importance for the development of the electric car market in the coming years, as one of the points that slows down its growth is precisely the high load times compared to thermal models.
Currently, the brand that offers more power in the street electric car is Porsche than in the Taycan model (which will be available later this year) allow loads up to 350 kW power; or that which is the same, restores 80% of its autonomy in just 15 minutes (remember that its battery will be 95 kWh, which should be more than 500 km in real conditions).
After Porsche we find Tesla, who recently revealed his V3 Superchargers, which can reach about 250 kW powerThe fact that only Model 3 can take advantage of this (Model S and Model X equipped with the new generation of Tesla engines are able to reach 200 kW, although it is expected that with a re-fit that both models will receive in end-of-year access to major powers).
However, Audi, the third largest power brand in power generation (Your e-tron model can reach 150 kW) claims that the high power attained by the Tesla model does not really mean anything, as this figure is retained for a very limited period of time, falling rapidly.
At the e-tron show in North America, Matthew Mostafaei, an e-tron manager and related Audi cars in the US, showed an interesting mass to the public comparing the speed of charging several electric models. According to Mostafaie, Tesla is able to get better power from them; however, the loading speed decreases drastically during the session,
For comparison, the Audi e-tron can stay above 140 kW for a long time (until it reaches about 80% autonomy), something that is due to the modern technology for cooling their batteries, as well as the wide fields of the package (despite the presence of 95 kWh capacity, the bottom of the battery has a reserve of 8% and the upper part of 4%, which explains that when the truth is that the model's autonomy is "only" 417 km of WLTP). This has such positive effects that a faster load and a longer useful life as the high degradation limits of the battery will be lower than in other electric cars.
