In order to raise awareness through continuing education directed at the organization's specialists, parallel action was taken during this scientific convention to "stimulate the interest in smoking cessation of tobacco users as well as to raise public awareness of disability that causes the use of cigarettes in human beings ", with the implementation of activities such as: Competition for Photography, Drawing Competition, Competition for Clinical Cases, Contest for Scientific Development, Trophy Competition, Regional competition for stands under the slogan of the congress "El Tabacco breaks the hearts, chooses health".
According to MINSA, more than 10 years ago, Panama has a comprehensive tobacco control policy since it has been part of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) since 2004, the implementation of which is based on the application of various national provisions ranging from resolutions to laws, as in the case of Law 13 of 24 January 2008.
Some important points of the legal regulation of tobacco control include: offering smoking cessation programs, a 100% smoke-free environment (bars, pubs, etc.), Inclusion of health warnings, pictograms and texts in Cigarette Packages, an increase in the tax on cigarettes (from which a percentage of the Ministry of Health is transferred to the prevention and treatment of smoking and related diseases).
