Norway, Portugal and Costa Rica make history 100% wind, solar, hydroelectric clean energy – ENERGIA LIMPIA XXI

In 2018 two countries are integrated into the prestigious club of those who are already 100% renewable, at least at certain times of the year, these countries are Norway and Portugal.

Portugal

For some time, Portugal has been stepping up its investments in renewable energy sources, and these efforts have already given strong and irreversible results. A report from the Portuguese Association for Renewable Energy reported that March with renewable sources reached 103.6% of the country's demand. Much more than what I needed. Of this percentage 55.5% are hydropower and 40.2% wind, and the remaining percentage corresponds to solar energy.

What Renewable Energy Does Not Generate Benefits? Yes, of course! The country saved 21 million euros, and the planet was saved from 1.8 million tons of carbon emissions.

Norway

This year, Norway achieved between 100% and 98% of clean output thanks to the hydroelectric power plant, which occupies more than 96% of the sector, where important projects have been developed and new technologies are being used. Two to four percent comes from wind, solar and bioenergy. Norway also promotes green transport, there is another world record, and in less than a decade it is proposed to give a full turn over electric vehicles.

Costa Rica

In 2017, the country has achieved 300 days of 100% renewable energy thanks mainly to its hydroelectric projects. In 2018, the country's new president announced the ban on fossil fuels, promoting hybrids, electric and other sustainable alternatives. When more than three decades ago Costa Rica began to talk about clean energy, it seems to be building sand castles, but today the weather has proven right and the country has achieved great successes beyond promises and good intentions.

This small country, with 3.4 million inhabitants, has already used the full potential of its hydroelectric rivers and invests 3% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) each year in a structural reform to achieve energy sovereignty for years on land and reduce the environmental footprint. Clean Energy XXI underlines that over the past 6 years, Uruguay has invested more than $ 22 billion in sustainable mobile energy and is now emerging as a regional leader. The country has exceptional winds, and this is where its biggest use is to generate clean energy. Keep in mind that this does not mean you are neglecting solar energy or using biogas.

Iceland and Lesotho

Lesotho hydroelectric power plants: A hydroelectric power plant was opened in 1998 that allows the sale of energy and water in South Africa. The country produces 90% of the energy needed. The small industry in the country is based on the transformation of agricultural products and clothing. Lesotho managed to be 100% renewable thanks to hydroelectric power, but it still deals with drought that at that time was buying energy from other neighboring countries. The resumption process needs to be consolidated and progressing.

Iceland's volcanoes: Iceland's energy is based almost entirely on renewable energy. In 2011, this country produces 65,444 GWh of primary energy, of which more than 85% originated from indigenous renewable energy sources. The geothermal energy of the volcanoes gave 66.3% of primary energy, complemented by hydropower 19.1% and other sources. In 2013, electricity production reached 18,116 GWh, which generated almost 100% of renewable energy sources – they exceeded 99% in 1982 and have since been almost exceptional. The main purpose of geothermal energy is heating of buildings with 45.4% of total geothermal consumption and electricity production by 38.8%. About 85% of the houses in the country are heated by this energy.

This time is not easy, there are many interests, especially the big oil companies. Now, the march to victory never stops the renewable sources from remaining. They advance against all chances in Spain, with a new place in Argentina and of course in Colombia, Bolivia, Mexico and Brazil.
