After meeting with President Sebastian Pinera, Temuco's Bishop Hector Vargas said he had asked the President to prioritize the projects in the framework of the Araucania Plan, which allow for a "future of peace in the justice for all".
"Having received an invitation from the President of the Republic, Sebastian Pinera, I had the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Interior, Social Development, the new Mayor and Governor of Malko." The president's interest was also to hear my opinion, along with others, about the situation we live in La Araucania, "said the Bishop of Temuco.
"This was the reason to become a bearer as a shepherd, one of the most sensible topics in the region. Indeed, after my painful time in which we live because of the young Catarlana's death, the complex situations arising from the actions of the public power and the resignation of the authorities, I thought it was appropriate to present some issues related to the current past conflict, "he added.
"Thus, the conversation covered the need to meet both the historical needs of the Mauche people and the situation of lagging behind, poverty, low investment and productivity, violence in the region, a government policy that increasingly needs more consensus and consolidates and are advancing faster in the light of international evidence on local public policy issues, "he added.
In this sense, he mentioned "constitutional recognition, the ministry of peoples and political participation, which can institutionalize the representativeness and effectiveness of dialogue and the requirements of authentic interculturality."
Finally, he urged the President to "give priority to more than 300 Arabian Plan projects, which are the most sensitive and urgent in the region's heart, in order to build a future of peace for everyone."
