A team of scientists is investigating desert and altilpiano of the forms of life in northern Chile that are considered similar to those that may be in other bodies of the solar system or in the nearby exoplanets.

The final check that Mars has water reveals some of the strangers that from the farthest times man has tried to clarify: Are we alone in the universe? Can we explore other planets?

Dr. David Holmes, biologist and astrobiologist at Genomics Center and bioinformatics from the University of Chile's mayor and the Science and Life Foundation, which runs the research, is convinced that there are other habitable areas inside and outside our galaxy that we could explore in the future.

"We investigated these circles to find out what might happen on this planet, or to find out what might happen in others we do not know yet," said Holmes of British origin and more than 20 years of work and residence in Chile, work in the mining industry

Author of 185 publications, including four books and a patent, he developed biotech-related studies to obtain cleaner copper bacteria from an aquatic environment.

Holmes then continues to work with extrinsic microorganisms living in extreme conditions: temperature and very high physiological levels or very low pH (acidity).

The Chilean desert and the altilpiano are analogous territories that reflect the reality of Mars, the researcher said in a document provided to Efe.

"I am absolutely certain that there is life somewhere in the universe, at least in the form of small microorganisms, on planets like Jupiter or Saturn, or in areas of Mars and Venus may have microbial life, unicellular organisms such as those found on Earth, commented

These same microorganisms, he said, can help explain many issues, including the appearance of life about 4.5 billion years ago when land He had very high temperatures and was bombarded by large earth and planetary bodies.

"Extremists in northern Chile should understand, for example, how life began, what energy sources would they use then? Elements such as iron, sulfur and hydrogen are available in Acceptable land as well as now in these territories nourishing those species that can survive with inorganic chemical energy, "he said.

Today, man has almost the certainty that Mars had a huge ocean, perhaps for about 2000 million years, enough time life emerges.

But from these waters, there were only seas and lakes, until the planet became completely dry and now the water remains alone in the lake, open under the south pole and perhaps underground elsewhere.

For Holmes, the lakes and saline areas of Chilean and Bolivian Antillean are similar to drying, they are cold and under strong solar radiation, just like Mars.

"The Atacama Desert is a wonderful analogue of the last step of this planet, full drought, but it has a microbial life underground in Atacama which rises if life can exist and underground on Mars, "he said.

Astrobiology explores the origin, evolution, spread, and future of life in the universe, using knowledge of physics, chemistry, astronomy, molecular biology, ecology, and planetary science among other disciplines.

Thousands of planets have been discovered in which they want to analyze their potential occupancy in addition to the moons of our solar system: Enceladus and Titan (Saturn) and Europe (Jupiter), where there is evidence of the presence of oceans.

In this context, the researcher believes that if there is life in our solar system, it will be very similar to what is known today, along with other elements based on carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, water, sulfur and iron.

"The rest of the universe, It's still unclear what life is, but I think we can find signs of it in the next 20 or 50 years, "Holmes said.

Outside the Solar System, the best hopes for life are in the area of ​​the universe called Goldilocks (Goldilocks Zone), which refers to the children's story where the main character tastes three soups: very cold, very hot and the other, temperature.
