Experimental Drug Shows Promise to Protect Peanut Allergies

An experimental drug derived from peanuts protects some children and adolescents with life-threatening peanut allergies, according to a study, which allows subjects to eat small amounts of beans without suffering serious reactions.

The drug, from a small California company, Aimmune Therapeutics, does not work for everyone, has some side effects and has not been approved by the regulator for sale. But the findings from the final phase of the trial promise a potential new solution for peanut allergy, a growing concern.
