Tesla is the leader in sales of electric vehicles in the US with a big difference in the first half of 2019, according to estimates from the InsideEVs website.
It sold around 83,875 cars in the US between January and June, according to InsideEVs, more than 10 times more than the number of cars sold by General Motors, which ranked second in the ranking. While Tesla sells three fully electric models, more than most other car makers, Tesla's best-selling car, Model 3, is more expensive than any other car with at least 750%.

But electric vehicles account for only 1% of the US automotive market and remain unprofitable for Tesla and many of its competitors, which means that traditional automakers are still not motivated to sell them in large numbers.
