New Delhi: Sushma Suraj, a former foreign minister and senior BJP leader, died on Tuesday evening. She was 67. A senior BJP leader was brought to AIIMS around 9:30 pm and was immediately taken to the emergency room. AIIMS doctors said she died of cardiac arrest.
"A glorious chapter in Indian politics is coming to an end. India is mourning the death of a remarkable leader who has dedicated his life to public service and improving the lives of the poor. Sushma Swarai ji was one of her families who was the source of inspiration for the people," he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a series of tweets. Several senior ministers, including Harsh Vardhan, Rainat Singh, Smriti Iran Prakash Javadekar, reached AIIMS after she was admitted to the hospital.
Suraj delivered a tweet tonight, congratulating Prime Minister Modi on the move of the Center for the Repeal of the Special Status of Jammu and Kashmir and the fragmentation of the border state into two Union territories, secured by Parliament's approval. "Narendra Modi ji – Thank you, Prime Minister. Thank you very much. I have been waiting to see this day in my life," she said.
Prime Minister Modi in his Tweets hailed Swaraj as a "fruitful speaker and exceptional parliamentarian" and said she was admired and honored by party lines. "She was uncompromising when it came to the ideology and interests of the BJP, whose growth has greatly contributed," Modi said.
"An excellent administrator, Sushma Ji has set high standards in every ministry she handles. It has played a key role in improving India's ties with different nations. As a minister, we also saw her compassionate side, helping fellow Indians who were in trouble in every part of the world, "he said.
"Extremely shocked to hear of the passing of Smt Sushma Swaraj. The country has lost a much-loved leader who embodies dignity, courage and integrity in public life. Whenever she wishes to help others, she will always be remembered for her service to the people of India. ", President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted.
Defense Minister Reinat Singh said he was deeply shocked and disturbed by the sudden demise of an extremely valuable colleague. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said: "Deeply shocked to learn about the passing of Smt Sushma Swaraj. It is difficult to accept this news. The whole nation is grieving, the Foreign Ministry is even more sad."
Her congress is condemned. "We are saddened to hear of the untimely demise of Smt Sushma Swaraj. Our condolences to her family and loved ones," the party said. "I am shocked to hear of the death of Sushma Swaraj Ji, a remarkable political leader, a talented speaker and an exceptional parliamentarian, with friendships along party lines. My condolences to her family in this hour of sorrow. May her soul rest in peace. Om Shanti" Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Twitter.
Swaraj made a kidney transplant in 2016 and refused to challenge the Lok Sabha studies earlier this year for health reasons. He survives from her husband Swaraj Kaushal and daughter Bansuri.
