Sri Lanka's first vehicle assembly plant, a joint venture between two companies in India and Sri Lanka, was announced to open in Matugama today (16 August).
The plant was built by Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd., India and its franchise holder in Sri Lanka Ideal Motors Ltd, according to a press release from India.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickreminghei and India's High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu chaired the inauguration event.
High Commissioner Sandhu, in his address, said the plant symbolized the promotion of Sri Lankan products along with products made in India.
