Giant black hole found – VIVA

VIVA – Astronomers detect black holes (Black hole) in a galactic cluster 700 million light-years from Earth, measuring 40 billion times the mass of the sun. For comparison, Sagittarius A *, a black hole in the center of the Milky Way galaxy itself, is 4.6 million times the mass of the Sun.

This black hole is in the center of a galaxy called Holmberg 15A, and in turn is located in the center of the galaxy Abell 85.

However, this estimate is an indirect measurement of a black hole.

The study, led by Kianusch Mehrgan of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, Germany, uses the very large telescope (VLT) of the European Southern Observatory.

"This is an extraordinary black hole observation and is the most widely discovered so far. We use the Schwarzschild-based orbimetric axisymmetric model to analyze the kinematics of the Holm 15A star from a new resolution, wide-field spectral observations obtained with MUSE at VLT," he explained.

He also claims to have found a supermassive black hole (SMBH) with a mass of 40 billion times the sun in the center of Holm 15A. The find was not the most massive black hole ever found.

The largest black hole is the quasar TON 618, which appears to have a black hole at a speed of 66 billion times the mass of the Sun.

So what makes a black hole grow so big? Until now, the researchers did not know the answer.

However, they continue to try to learn it by doing more sophisticated and detailed modeling. This research is in the process of being published in The Astrophysical Journal.
