PANGKALAN BUN – The number of people with HIV / AIDS in Kotawaringin Barat Regency, has seen a significant increase year on year. From the data received, 286 cases of HIV / AIDS were treated by Sultan Imamuddin Panggalan Bung Hospital.
HIV / AIDS patients not only came from Kobar Regency, but there were patients from several areas in Central Kalimantan such as Lamandau, Sukamara, Seruyan, Katingan and some of the provinces of Kalimantan, such as West Kalimantan and Southern Kalimantan, as well as outside Kalimantan.
"Of the hundreds of HIV / AIDS patients we deal with, the largest number of patients coming from the Kobar Regency," said the director of Sultan Imanuddin Pangkalan Bun Hospital through the head of the medical services, Dr. Emma Tindan, Monday, July 15, 2019.
According to him, in 2017, the number of patients treated by hospitals with HIV was 120 patients. Their number grew by 100 in 2018, and the period from January to June 2019 increased again with 66 new sufferers.
Of these, the patients from the Cobar residence were 242, Lamandau 24, Sukamara 6, Katingan 1, and Kalimantan (Kalbar) 5 people, Kalimantan (Southern Kalimantan), and Kalimantan 2 people.
Note that the majority of people with HIV / AIDS are infected through sexual contact with a history of partner change and free sex.
"Out of 268 people with HIV / AIDS with 166 male sexes and 120 women, 8 of them are also positive for tuberculosis, so they have to get treatment for tuberculosis for 6 months," he concludes.
