Congratulations by President Raimonds Vējiens on Láčplēsis Day
November 11, 2018.
Information is prepared by the Chancellor of the President
Today, Latvia commemorates and honors its heroes – soldiers who do not care and sacrifice their lives for the freedom and independence of our country. Thanks to their courage, selfishness and true love for the homeland, the Latvian Army wins the battle against Riga against a much bigger and stronger enemy. We join our country and nation and win.
This year, November 11 is a special day not only for Latvia but for the whole world, because we mentioned it for a hundred years since the end of the First World War. During the First World War soldiers first gathered under the red and white flag. After joining our country, after its establishment, Latvian heroes carried our flags from Valka, Liepaja and Cesis, crossing Lielupe and the Gauja River. It is being laid today and always flows in the Tower of the Holy Spirit of Riga Castle, like on November 11, 1919, above the protected Riga.
Today, our army is ready to pay the highest price – the life of their country. As many as a hundred years ago, today, in addition to our loyalty and the future of Latvia, there are reliable allies.
We know and appreciate the price of freedom. We continue to strengthen our defense capabilities every day. We are very aware that we will protect the independence of our country only with a strong, modern and combat National Armed Forces. As more and more young people join the New Guard, the younger generation who have the knowledge and skills needed to act at an important time to protect Latvia is growing.
I salute all Latvian soldiers, guards and young adventurers on Lacplesis Day! Thank you for waking up every day and watching our Latvia! This is a hard and responsible job. I thank my parents who taught the love of the country. Thank you for every heart waiting for our soldiers at home from services, training and mission abroad. You are an extraordinary supporter and force of our troops!
Let the heroic inspirations of our warriors inspire us every day to join our country and work endlessly for our Latvians!
God bless Latvia!
