In the 60s of Honda, Honda changed America's perception of motorcycles and motorcyclists to "You Meet Honda's Best People," a campaign that covered 49 cubits at the time. The low-flow motorcycle was fun, cheap and did not try to be difficult or nasty. From Hollywood movies to the American highways, many thought motorcycling as an activity for hard boys and robbers until the friendly little Honda came. Small bicycles were a refreshing change when they first arrived, and since many bikes in the US seem to be getting bigger and bigger, a suitable motorcycle like Cub is just as welcome now.
Small bicycles were a refreshing change when we first saw them, and since many bikes in the US look bigger and bigger, the little bike like Cub is just as welcome now.
With a small and efficient engine, affordable price and style that is both nostalgic and emblematic, the Honda Super Cub C125 ABS in 2019 reduces the threat factor for new riders and invites everyone to have fun on a motorcycle.
Honda has sold more than 100 million stepped motorcycles around the world, so as long as people do not realize it, they've probably seen a similar bike before. Riding in Los Angeles, the home of the American Honda Motor Company since its arrival on the American market in 1959, the passers-by has been extremely positive. Seeing a group of eight riders who were moving along the line of these live, classic-looking machines, it had to be quite a spectacle, but all the smiles of riders and viewers. One person actually held his half-eaten storm for me as he drove his bike, as if to cheer me on being so great in my Super Cube – at least I'm sure why.
The Super Cub styling is classic and well … friendly. It's almost difficult to tell the new bike except for the old models until you're close. From the two-color battle to the iconic wind guards that block the elements of your legs to the old school badge, Honda maintained almost everything we loved for the old cubes, while updating enough technology to make them feel technologically advanced. LED headlights and turn signals are bright and clear. Wireless ignition and LCD display also give the bike a modern feel without diminishing nostalgia.
The power of the Super Cub is very similar to that of the Grom – air-cooled and fuel-injected but equipped with a semi-automatic four-speed transmission, a unique ECU card and some other minor changes. There is a semi-automatic clutch, but your toe switch moves you through the four Cub gears, keeping your ride simple and removing one of the main intimidation factors – to find out how to use the clutch lever – for the new racers. The semi-automatic centrifugal clutch turns on when you turn the choke but relax when you press the switch lever, then grab again while releasing it. This actually makes smooth switching requires a little finesse. Release of the lever to switch slowly with a small amount of gas during shifting and switching gears when gear shifting reduces the displacement. We found that the Cub may have started, but we are not sure EFI and the ignition can handle a really dead battery.
With a slightly higher profile and a larger wheelbase than Grom, Cub feels more like a "real bike". And while Grom and Monkey are fun machines, they are often not seen as serious because of their small size. This is where the Super Cub fills the emptiness, an economically conscious traveler, which is a more motorcycle than a scooter built to take you through the city reliably and cheaply with a larger and more visible profile.
Cub stops quickly and safely, fitted with a 220 mm front disc, one piston and front-only ABS, and a drum brake in the rear. The soft springs and slightly damped suspension ensure a consistent journey and fit the intended Cub role. The 26 mm reversible fork stops the Cub's front tire and the double strikes hold the rear. The processed 17-inch wheels mean that there will be many rubber options when the IRC tires wear out. Compared to Grom, the tires are narrower, but with a larger radius, which means that the obstacles are easier to cross and less glide on the tire, so a little better fuel economy.
The unique Honda Cub frames are made of pressed steel, but the new Super Cub gets a tubular steel chassis covered with a plastic box. In fact, the whole body of the new engine is plastic, except for the metal rear fender.
The Super Cub's 1 gallon fuel tank is good for 100 miles, says Honda. We did not get a chance to measure the fuel consumption of our press conference, but we will do it when we get the Super Cub in the test fleet. As for maximum speed, I saw 65 miles per hour on flat ground and there was still room to go. But this motorcycle is not associated with a reduction in the highest gear, and maintaining it up to 50 miles per hour for a general trip is much more convenient. This is likely to be adequate for many travelers, but it will cause us to avoid the South California highways, which usually move much faster than that.
Super Cub reminds me of the simpler times we just walk around, not a bike, to achieve top performance or think about things – and I love it. This is the fun, endless experience we all remember, from the start and now – with its $ 3600 MSRP – as accessible and accessible as ever. Honda has done a great job of upgrading this legendary little bike. We hope that more players from all levels will be forced to roll, or rather, through, Super Cube.
