Tighter regulation for babies after recent cases of abuse

Putrajaya: Nurses caring for more than four children will have to register with the Social Welfare Department, said Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Hannah Yeoh.

Joach said that while it is difficult to regulate family members and friends who help take care of children, those who care for more than four children have to register with the department.

"It is impossible to enforce regulations for family members or friends who help take care of children." The scope is too wide and not practical, and now, if the nurse cares for more than four children, she must register with the Department for social care, "she said at a press conference after the ministry's guidelines and checklist for nannies were launched.

The guidance developed by the Association of Registered Providers for Childcare and Childcare and Childcare (ECCE) for babies was opened by Deputy Prime Minister Daduk Seri Dr. Wang Aziza Wang Ismail, who is also Minister of Development women, family and community,

According to Yogh, 90% of day care in the country is not registered in the Social Welfare Department and only 4,378 or 11% are registered.

"This is a very small number compared to the need for child care, and the lack of qualified caregivers is also a problem." The ministry always works with stakeholders, including experts, to find solutions, she added.

The Minister advises parents to immediately report any suspicious activity or anything against the law in childcare facilities or babysitters' homes by calling Tallinn Cassius in 19999.

She also said that parents should look for recommendations from friends or relatives or consult the ministry or agencies like PPBM and ECCE for babysitters.

"Please do not look for babysitters online, please do not let strangers, people you do not know, take care of your children."

The ministry is currently working to introduce a screening system for people working in the childcare sector until next year.

"With the help of the screening system, parents will be able to get acquainted with personal data and see if they have a criminal story, it will be similar to a black list of immigration or insolvency checks," she said.
