In a point of agreement analyzing the Second Standing Committee, he said that in the world, Spain in 2017 is the country with the best organ donation statistics, since there are 47 people for every million inhabitants that after they died , they become donors. In Latin America, Uruguay is the nation with the best position, with 18.9 deaths per million people who donated their organs.
In Mexico, donation goes the other way. In 2017, there were 3.9 donors per million people. In 2018, according to Cenatra data, seven thousand 583 transplants were performed; nevertheless, there were 21 983 patients awaiting transplantation; that is, demand exceeds supply three times.

This year, the total number of people looking for a kidney represents the highest number – 15 thousand 72. For the second quarter of 2019, citizens waiting for an organ are 22 thousand 290, and again the kidney transplant took first place, waiting 15,939 people, followed by those in need of the cornea, 5,988.
Reyes Montiel pointed out that low levels of donation in Mexico are worrying, given that the first transplant took place in 1963 and since then the government and various social groups have been working to raise awareness and create a culture of donation; However, the data show that it could not be strengthened.
He mentioned that donation can be made in life or after a person dies; In the latter case, there is no age limit as long as the organs and tissues are healthy. The importance of donation and transplantation is that it allows an irreversible person to improve their condition and quality of life and, in some cases, is the only way to preserve life.
The lack of progress in building a donor culture is due to factors such as people's beliefs, the idea that donation can affect health when made in life, structural disadvantages and trained staff, in addition to lack of information and consent from the family of the potential donor.
He said one way to encourage donation is through dissemination campaigns that provide information that allows you to know the subject and its scope, clarify existing doubts, and provide details of the procedure to follow, if you want to be a donor.
In 2011, in the United States, for example, with distribution campaigns, the donor rate was increased from 47.5 percent to 51 percent and the rejection rate from 44 percent to 33 percent.
In 2018, the Autonomous University of Metropolitan University, Xochimilco Division and the Autonomous University of Mexico provided audiovisual materials to Cenatra to communicate and promote the donation that could assist in conducting the proposed campaign.
The deputy stressed that while the cenatra performs its functions in designing and coordinating donation campaigns, it is acknowledged that this activity, in addition to being permanent, requires the support and support of various levels of government, powers, institutions and agencies public and social for greater scope and effectiveness in its mission.
