One in three French people sleep well, and there are ten million to take sleeping pills. Studies show: we don't get enough sleep. Less than six hours for a third of France, while we need between seven and eight hours of sleep on average.
More worryingly, children and adolescents are also affected. This is because parents are late coming home from work and delaying the sleeping time of children to use them, or because of the many screens in a teenager's room, which interfere with sleep. Results: 1:30 to 2 hours sleep for teens, and half an hour for the youngest. While on average, a four-year-old child needs an average of 12 hours of sleep, 10 to 10 years and 8 to 18 years.
Is it seriously not getting enough sleep? According to Sylvie Royant-Parola, psychiatrist and president of the Morphée network, which is dedicated to the management of sleep disorders, this can have a significant impact on everyday life: attention and learning disorders in schools, behavioral disorders: nervous children, irritable teens mood swings, not to mention the risk of obesity or diabetes, as well as a decrease in immune defense. In short: it is necessary at all costs to avoid that lack of sleep settles in duration.
So how do you do it? The Morphee Network has launched a website dedicated to sleeping under 18 years, with concrete solutions validated by scientific committees, and discussion forums. One rule to remember is regular sleep rhythm. For youngest children, it is important to put children to sleep at a fixed time, to avoid games that are too attractive at night, and think about preparing a sleep ritual to make the child safe. This ritual must be short, or the child will feel that you do not want to leave him alone.
Teenagers will always try to suppress the limit, and thus the time to fall asleep. It's up to parents to impose regular bedtime. And weekends, there is no way to let your child sleep until noon. Two hours of sleep, no more, if not the biological clock will drink. And it is very important to teach teenagers to disconnect the screen at least one hour before going to bed.
