The team, led by Dutch researchers, analyzed the DNA and sleep data of 1.3 million people. With this, according to Van Someren, an important part of the puzzle is placed. "It is often said that people with insomnia should just relax and not worry," he says. "But you can really have talent for him, and we want to know why."
The next step is to analyze the brain cells at the molecular level in a laboratory. Scientists are also exploring what helps well with insomnia. These can be medicines, but also bedtime tips as calm as possible. "If you are prone to insomnia, you can keep in mind that at the end of the day you do not take too much of a thrill."
According to a statistic report, at least 10% of Dutch suffer from severe sleeping problems.
