Toyota has just lifted a hood on the Camry TRD, the first time a noble sedan has received special treatment from the Toyota Racing Development division. The limited edition 2020 Camry TRD is more sporty and aerodynamic, with special styling made by Calty, Toyota's North American design studio. Performance capabilities are intended to make a fully prepared-track family sedan creature.
The TRD prescription as used here actually involves recalibrating a number of mechanical components in the popular Toyota model to enable its influence on aggressive tracks, without sacrificing their quality in terms of comfort and practicality of daily use.
The new TRD Camry is powered by a 3.5L V6 DOHC engine that delivers 301 hp and is connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission, and displays Sport mode and paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Also present are special paint-back exhausts that are specifically adapted.
This model also benefits from exclusive aerodynamic elements that complement the next generation racist Camry silhouette; TRD modified chassis has a more dynamic posture too. Aerodynamic body kits include front splitters, side aero skirts, trunk lid spoilers and rear diffuser. All of this, Toyota promises, resulting in better stability at higher speeds. Also includes red pinstriping, brake calipers painted red and red TRD badging.
Thicker lower body wire increases torsional stiffness and a unique coil spring lowers the vehicle by 0.6 inches for a reduced center of gravity.
The matte-black 19 x 8.5 inch alloy wheels are half an inch wider, but 3.1 pounds lighter (each) from the 19 x 8.0 inch alloy wheels on the XSE trim of the regular Camry. Special calibrated front brakes are larger and equipped with double piston calipers.
The TRD Camry will be standard with Toyota Safety Sense-P, a set of advanced drive-assist technologies, between Pre-Collision Braking.
To help him stand apart, the TRD version of the Camry has a unique gloss-black front grille with sport mesh insert and black exterior badging. Available colors include dramatic Supersonic Red, Windchill Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic – all three are two-color – and Midnight Black Metallic.
The TRD Division has installed a Camry TRD with a black sport front seat, red accents and red stitched TRD embroidered headrests. The leather steering wheel also has red stitches, and even a red seat belt. A shift button with a TRD logo appears, a unique TRD floor and trunk mat and TRD information display complete cabin upgrades.
If you are interested in buying a TRD Camry, you must be patient and ready to jump: The 2020 Toyota Camry TRD will be a limited edition, and is not expected to reach the market before the fall of 2019.
