Fodor's, a travel site, just released "Go List", a collection of 52 top destinations in the world. (They also released "Missing List" – the top place that should be avoided in 2019. That is also interesting.)
This is a diverse list, with everything from downtown Los Angeles and Montreal to the sacred Bears Ears National Monument, the Nile and Uluru in Australia. And they pay special attention to the region, like Puerto Rico, where natural disasters caused such devastation last year. Puerto Rico, Key West and St. Martin is all on the list.
"The beauty of the world cannot be measured, while disaster teaches us strong lessons about nature and about ourselves," said editorial director of Fodors.com, Jeremy Tarr, in the announcement. "This year's list celebrates the tourism ethos of curiosity, openness of mind and wonders that make us live and connect with our world."
One of the newest national monuments in the country, Bear Ears Utah, is one of a dozen bakeries from the main destination of North America, chosen for its rugged beauty, cultural history, and sacred meaning for the Navajo, Hopi and other tribes. The colorful New Orleans Bywater, in the 9th Ward, is included, along with Tucson and its live adobes, Sonoran Desert landscape and art stage. And Key West, who has recovered from last summer's hit by Hurricane Irma, is a dream of a bright and beautiful trip once again.
Here's the Fodor list of the top 13 North American destinations. Find a complete list, plus articles, hotel and travel recommendations, photos and more on Fodors.com.
