NASA reveals images of an asteroid that is "nothing humanity has ever seen before

NASA has released pictures of an extremely unusual mountain on the surface of an asteroid.

The natural miracle, called Akuna Mons, is found on the surfaces of Ceres, a dwarf planet, believed to be the largest rock space in the solar system.

A probe called Dawn is currently locked in orbit around Ceres, but it's actually dead after the fuel has run out.

Last year, NASA said it would continue to move around the dwarf planet "decades", but did not reveal whether it would survive as a shell or die in a crash at some point in the future.

Ceres can be found in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The new image is based on map data generated by Dawn.

NASA writes: "Ahuna Mons is like nothing humanity has ever seen. First of all, its slopes are garnished not with old craters, but with young vertical stripes.

Hyp The New Hypothesis [abouts its origins] argues that a mud balloon rises deep within the dwarf planet and pushes through the icy surface into a weak point rich in reflective salt – and then freezes.

It is believed that the bright strips are similar to other recently coated materials, as seen in Ceres's famous bright spots.

Ceres has a generous supply of organic chemicals called "building blocks of life".

Data from NASA's Dawn's probe has revealed that the small foreign world "contains much more abundance of organic matter than originally thought."

While this does not mean that the aliens once lived on Ceres, it can show that the chemicals that are vital to the development of life are spreading throughout the universe.

Hannah Kaplan, a post-doctorate at the Southwest Research Institute who runs the research, said the discovery was "not only important for Ceres but also for missions that will soon explore asteroids that can also contain organic materials."

It is not known how the organic matter was on Ceres, but it is likely that it will be taken off the surface by asteroids or comets.

Ceres is known for the "extraterrestrial secret lights" that seem to shine on its surface. Probably they are caused by light reflecting on ice.

NASA recently announced the discovery of organic molecules on Mars at the bottom of a lake that "contained all the ingredients needed for life, including chemical building blocks and energy sources" about three billion years ago, according to NASA.
