MOSCOW, November 22. / Tass /. , Head of the General Directorate of Intelligence (GRU) of the General Staff of Russian Armed Forces Igor Korobov died at the age of 62 after a serious illness. This was announced by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
"The leadership of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the Chief Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation informed with profound regret that on 21 November 2018 in the 63rd year of life after a severe and prolonged illness, the head of the Directorate of the Headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation – Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Colonel General Corobov, Igor Valentinovic, – announced at Thursday in the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
The ministry has expressed condolences to Korobov's relatives and friends, stressing that his work as head of military intelligence is distinguished by state awards and the highest degree of honors – the title Hero of Russia.
Korobov was born in Vassum on August 3, 1956. He has served in the armed forces since 1973. Following his graduation from the flight department of the Military School at the Stavropol military station for pilots and navigators for air defense, named after the Air Marshal Sudetz Korobov, served in the Polish Aviation Regiment.In 1985, after graduating from the Military Academy of the Soviet Army, he served in the organizational structures of the General Staff of GRU of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
After graduating from the General Staff Military Academy, Korbov continued to work in the Central Intelligence Agency of the Russian Federation. In January 2016, with the decree of the President of Russia, the military was appointed chief of the General Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the BB Armed Forces, Deputy Chief of the Armed Forces Armed Forces.
