"We are deeply concerned about the developments in the context of the INF treaty, which may end on August 2, 2019. We are sorry for Russia's suspension of its obligations under the ICF Treaty on July 3, 2019. We urge the Russian Federation to respond effectively to serious concerns about the development, flight testing and deployment of 9M729 missile systems on the ground, as well as the serious concerns by failing to comply with the INF Treaty, "the EU said.
European officials have called on Russia to take steps to comply with the treaty.
The US-USSR-US Missile Shuttle (US) was negotiated in 1987. The document prohibits ballistic missiles and land-based missiles with a radius of 500 km to 5.5 thousand km.
Earlier, Moscow and Washington have repeatedly accused each other of breaching the treaty.
The Americans were not satisfied with the 9M729 Russian missile tests, believing that this weapon violated the treaty. The United States set an ultimatum, but Moscow refused to destroy missiles.
