The US Department of Commerce may soon cut some restrictions on Huawei Technologies by including the Chinese telecoms giant on the black list, making it virtually impossible for the company to buy the most up-to-date products in the United States, a spokesman said on Friday.
The Department of Commerce may issue a temporary general license to allow companies and people with Huawei equipment to maintain the reliability of their networks and communications equipment, the spokesman said.
This license will not apply to new transactions and will last for 90 days.
Donald Trump signed a decree prohibiting US companies from using telecommunications equipment produced by companies posing a risk to national security that would prohibit US bands from doing business with Huawei.
The Interim License may be of benefit to ISPs and mobile operators in sparsely populated areas such as Wyoming and East Oregon who have purchased Huawei's network equipment in recent years. (Karen Friedheim, Arthur Connan for French Service)
