Naby Keita told Liverpool and Juergen Klop that he would do his best to help the Reds win the race for Germany's striker Timo Werner this summer.
22-year-old striker Leipzig postponed his decision for his future, and after his contract expires in the summer of 2020, he will probably be sold by the Bundesliga club this summer.
In December Bild reports that Jurgen Klap has weighed a move for Werner, and now Keita – who plays with the striker for two seasons in Leipzig, weighs the speculation that links him to the Liverpool move.
"We played very well together in Leipzig and he was one of my best friends there," Keita said in quotes in Bully news transmitted by an interview with Sport Bild,
"It is clear: if he is on the move, I will ask Timo to join us here in Liverpool."
Keith moved to Merseyside with a deal of £ 52.75m last summer, but the 23-year-old there are problems with shape and fitness after the move and struggled to win a regular start under Klopp.
While not surprising that the midfielder would like Liverpool to bring Werner, there has been no confirmation from any of the clubs that Liverpool's interest in Werner is real.
But after his contract expires in 17 months, there will be no shock if Klopp turns to Germany's 22-year-old striker, with a fee of about 40 million euros.
Reds are likely to be in the market for a new center forward – Daniel Sturridge is expected to leave at the end of his contract and was on Tuesday in connection with Tottenham – and Werner seems to answer the bill.
However, Ralph Rangnik believes that Werner should be careful not to join the Premier League Kita, with the head of Leipzig, pointing to the fight of Guinea as a reason why he should think twice about this move.
He said sky in Germany through Bully news: "Keita was an outstanding player here but still fighting in Liverpool.
"So far he has not been the player where he was. The environment must be suitable for Timo. This is the case here.
