Dr. Wang Chenglu, The chairman of the software department at Huawei Consumer Business Group said EMUI 10 was a pioneer in the use of distributed technology to provide superior user experience across all device applications.
EMUI 10 provides interconnectivity between devices as well as between devices and applications that are designed once and work across multiple devices and in different modes of use. It will encourage the development of specific applications, innovative smart devices in vehicles and the execution of business tasks across multiple devices. One-off application development, which then runs across multiple devices, will increase efficiency, reduce costs, and give users a smarter experience. Because of EMUI's openness, Huawei expects partners and developers to come together and create innovative new experiences. At the end of the presentation event Dr. Wang announced that the beta version of EMUI 10 will be available for testing on P30 Series devices on September 8th and will be available to users of the next generation of the Mate family.
At least 150 million users
EMUI has 500 million users per day, which means that it is installed on at least as many devices from 216 countries and supports 77 languages. Regular improvements also make great statistics. Upgrades to EMUI 8 and later to EMUI 9 reach 79 and 84 percent, respectively, and at least 150 million users are expected to choose EMUI 10.
Since 2012, when EMUI 1.0 was introduced, Huawei has been investing in research and development to continuously improve the system's performance. GPU Turbo technology enhances the effect of graphics processing by 60 percent, while Link Turbo's merger technology allows higher data rates. By combining Wi-Fi with a 4G mobile network, data transfer can be up to 70 percent faster than using the mobile network alone. The EROFS file system improves data read speed for Android by 20 percent, and Ark Compalier improves third-party application performance by up to 60 percent.
EMUI brings three innovations. User-centered design (UX), superb user experience in all modes and a new standard for trouble-free operation. In addition, there is a darker way to comfort. Studies show that people perceive the brightness and saturation of colors differently depending on a dark or light background. Dark mode adjusts the color contrast between text and background, as well as the color of texts and system icons, resulting in visual consistency, comfort and readability.
EMUI adopts revolutionary distributed video calling technology in HD resolution on multiple devices. When the phone rings, the user may decide to answer an incoming call via a smart speaker. However, in the case of a video call, it may sound via TV, vehicle display or real-time video stream from the drone for friends to enjoy. At work, your smartphone and computer can share screens and you can transfer data between devices using the simple drag and drop principle.
But for a seamless experience enabled by the widespread technology, it is necessary to first virtualize the hardware capabilities of each device. What the device is capable of then depends not only on its hardware capabilities, such as a built-in screen, microphone or speaker, but also on shared resources. Each device can take the necessary resources from the other, as well as share its resources. Therefore, for a user or an application, several physical devices can be combined into one virtual machine.
Huawei also pays close attention to security. In addition to improved user experience, where technology is at the forefront, it also builds a distributed security system. Using its own hardware and software, it consolidates an in-depth security system that utilizes the system chip architecture and the core of the operating system as a basis for security and trust. Only user-authenticated devices can connect with each other, and communication between them is encrypted by a source to sink (end-to-end). This guarantees complete security of data transmission between devices.
One development, use anywhere
The number of devices, not just smartphones and TVs, is growing rapidly due to the popularity of the ecosystem of devices and applications. At the same time, users require the same experience on the service, regardless of the device they have in front of them or their location. This is a big challenge for developers as they need to adapt applications to devices, languages and data exchange.
There is no doubt that the future will be littered with different applications and a large number of different smart devices. Application developers also need to adapt to this. EMUI 10 offers them a distributed user interface software framework and hardware virtualization capability. Therefore, they can create an application for many devices without having to customize it individually.
EMUI will facilitate the development of the ecosystem
The number of Huawei smartphone users has grown dramatically over the past few years. In recent months alone, the company has sold 100 million devices, and EMUI will provide more applications to consumers in the future and improve the experience of the device. In doing so, the former finds benefits for all stakeholders, so Huawei will continue to open opportunities for tools and platforms such as Ark Compailer and Huawei DevEco Studio. It will continue to work with developers and partners in the industry to work together to create innovative experiences across all device usage conditions.
EMUI 10 Beta and P30 series
The P30 series smartphones will be upgraded to the EMUI 10 beta on September 8 for testing. However, for P20 series devices, the update will be available later. Dr. Wang Chenglu also said that the final version of EMUI 10 will be unveiled for the first time to the next generation of Huawei Mate devices.
Huawei's products and services are available in more than 170 countries and are used by one-third of the world's population, ranking them third in the world in mobile phone delivery. More than two million Watch GT smartphones and more than 10 million P30 series phones are in circulation, with more than 200 million products shipped worldwide last year, Huawei is ranked second in Europe in patent applications. In Slovenia alone, Huawei delivered 155,000 smartphones to its users last year, with an average market share of over 30% in the Slovenian market.
Sixteen R&D centers have been established in the USA, Germany, Sweden, Russia, India and China. The Huawei Bussines Group Consumer Center is one of Huawei's three business units covering smartphones, computers, tablets, cloud services … in the world.
