Global tripling of measles cases – Sydsvenskan

Global tripling of measles cases

The number of reported measles cases in the world is increasing dramatically. The World Health Organization is now raising alarms about dwindling vaccination levels, a development partly due to "misinformation" about suspected adverse effects.

False information about vaccination risks is one reason why the number of reported measles cases is increasing, according to the WHO. Pictured is an American protest in February against a mandatory vaccination Ted S Warren / AP / TT

In the first seven months of 2019, 364,808 cases of measles were reported worldwide, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO). This is almost triple the number of 129,239 cases documented during the same period last year and the highest number since 2006.
