5G has become the winner of hope. The next generation of mobile will become a pioneer for all technical dreams: virtual reality, self-driving cars, e-health and smart grid will be increased as soon as the first 5G networks are activated – the promise of the industry.
5G makes the mobile phone Internet very fast – even faster than an optical link directly at home, at home or in the office, the fastest way to the Internet so far. Diana raises the question: Is there still a need for a connection at home? Or is it enough if you have a fast mobile network with the greatest possible volume of data? The potential for saving is obvious: without the fixed internet connection, the monthly bill will be lost and there is no need to worry about the internet infrastructure in your own home.
Wi-Fi via mobile access point
Socially compliant internet users, such as students, are already practicing this today, as it is now easy to access mobile internet access with other devices. IPhone provides a personal touch point for connecting laptops, smart TVs or game consoles to the phone's Wi-Fi network and using Internet access. Even with Android phones has this opportunity. There it is called tethering, a mobile access point or something like that.
But this is just an improvised solution that is not quite suitable for long-term use: the battery on the mobile device is quickly empty and if the owner takes his phone, the internet is gone. For more sophisticated solutions, there are routers, such as Fritzbox, who work as their colleagues for ADSL, fiber optic cables or TV cables – except that it uses the data network of the mobile service provider.
Nokia shows in video how 5G should change "everything".
This is the predecessor of the 5G, LTE or 4G standard, neatly fast. However, he needs the right cell phone contract that meets two conditions: First, there must be an option for several SIM cards. This means you can get multiple SIM cards and use one of them specifically for the router.
Secondly, you need an unlimited amount of data: Because a typical contingent of a limited contract does not go far enough when several people use the Internet. Even the update of the operating system is usually a few gigabytes in size and may exceed the limitations. This would result in suspension or recovery.
«Fiberglass through the air»
Swiss mobile service providers differ in support of such solutions. sunrise distributes "fiberglass through the air". With 5G, rural high-speed internet can be opened in the first phase, media spokesman Rolf Zibold said.
The mobile service provider offers routers such as Sunrise 4G + WiFi Tower, which are designed for home Internet access. Sunrise provides that the service will be "de-priority" on a case-by-case basis if the use of one site leads to the quality of the service being damaged by other customers. This may lead to a temporary reduction. However, obstacles to this brake will be high, says Rolf Zibold: "In addition to the limited capacity of the antenna, the required data volumes of up to 500 GB and above are required on average for three months."
too salt has an internet box for unlimited 4G internet access. With Plus Swiss, the additional SIM card costs 10 francs. Media spokeswoman Viola Lebel points out that multi-browsers cards for customers without subscription to Salt are currently offered at a discount of 19.95 francs per month. There are no Salt restrictions for "normal data consumption, including video streaming." However, customers must agree to use the service only in such a way that "the quality of the service is not compromised for other customers".
on Swisscom insists on "fair use"
Swisscom has the "Fair Use Policy" in its contractual provisions, which states that the supplier may restrict or terminate the service if its use "deviates significantly from normal use". This should be inevitable if the whole family or WG shares a contract for a mobile phone. Swisscom does not offer its own LTE / 4G routers, but it is not completely against this usage: "In some cases, when users use almost just a smartphone or tablet, it may make sense to connect the devices only through a mobile network with Multidevice", explains spokesman for Swisscom Media Armin Shadeel.
Will this way the future and access to the Internet will soon be a discontinued model? And so the mobile operators with the 5G expansion are the very foot? Swisscom chief Urs Shepi does not see it this way. On last year's annual performance, he expressed his belief that home and mobile networks would complement each other.
"You do not want to do this before his eyes"
Even Freddie Künzler, who specializes in Init7 Internet Service Providers, is afraid of the competition not: For a little surfing, the mobile network is quite sufficient. "But when you load a high resolution, it's over. Pixelbrei or low resolution do not want to make their eyes. "In addition, a reasonable home network, VPN and proprietary server services do not work reliably, as well as games that rely on quick reaction times. And Künzler has a very practical reason to continue moving in two directions: mobile data subscription is then used as a backup if the home connection fails. Without that, it is completely offline.
The advantage of the fiber is that you have it for yourself. Air is called a "hardened environment" in wireless broadcasts that all customers share in the same place: when many people transmit data at the same time, transmission speeds decrease. Once half of the neighboring areas manage Netflix evening shows in the same mobile tower, there is not much of a stunning 5G speed.
More antennas or more transmission power
This means in plain language that mobile service providers either need to build more expensive antennas or increase transmission power. Indeed, in September 2018, mobile operators are trying to raise the thresholds. The Council of States has rejected this by a narrow majority.
But the danger of more antennas or more transmission power leads to the fact that opponents of expansion see themselves strengthened in their fears. They are already ridiculed by the new standard with strange videos – and they are demanding, for example, bird deaths on 5G test trials. These are conspiracy theories. But for Freddie Kühltzer it is clear that the use of 5G mobile phones rather than fiber increases political pressure to allow for more transmission power. (Tamedia Editors)
