How to deal with psoriasis?

Psoriasis, which is a common skin disorder in our society, usually manifests with a genetic predisposition. Stress, depression, fatigue, microbial inflammation, certain medications (such as cortisone, painkillers …) and injuries can also cause the disease. In the presence of triggering factors, the lesions appear in the skin as a result of the reactions that occur in the cells of the immune system. This is a chronic disease. It can be seen at any age. However, it is not so contagious.

The disease is characterized by bright red, clearly pronounced lesions. The lesions are covered with pearly scales and rashes. The lesions can be round, oval, crescent or serpentine in different sizes. Often observed on the scalp, knee, elbow, caudal bone. After skin lesions, some people may have joint psoriasis. There are joint pains, tenderness, redness, swelling, fever, restriction and stiffness in the morning.

If the patient stays away from triggering factors and continues treatment, well-being periods are long.

Excessive fatigue, hard work and stress should be avoided. Because of the side effects, use as few medicines as possible. Tar, cortisone, anthralin, tazarotene, urea or vitamin D3 containing creams are helpful. Sun rays are also good for psoriasis. Therefore, phototherapy (light therapy) was developed and used in the treatment. In patients who do not respond to medical treatment or develop joint complaints, various drugs that suppress the immune system are used.

Regular assessment of high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol should be made. People with psoriasis have a higher risk of cancer. Therefore, PAP smear, mammogram, colon, skin cancer screening should be followed by screening tests such as screening. If skin complaints do not improve and worsen despite medical treatment, a skin biopsy for the differentiation of mycosis fungoids, called cutaneous lymphoma, should be considered.

Because stress is an important trigger in psoriasis, a change in lifestyle is important for reducing stress. Different methods of stress management need to be developed. Rest, book reading or walking yürüyüş If stress cannot be cured, a psychiatrist and psychologist should seek help. In this way, other exacerbations can be reduced. Of course, smoking, alcohol and malnutrition are the main factors that affect many diseases. Appropriate measures for them have a positive effect. Smoking increases the risk of psoriasis and seizures in patients with psoriasis. Obesity also increases the risk of psoriasis. Therefore, diet control and weight control should be ensured through exercise.
