Freeze Watch was released to Central North Carolina this weekend

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) –

The National Weather Service released Watch Freeze for all Central North Carolina from 10pm. Saturday to 9 Sunday morning.

This will be a bright but cold weekend because a large drop in the jet stream brings cold air to the Triangle.

Widespread temperatures in the mid-20s and above are likely to be Sunday morning effectively ending the growing season. Good news? This will end the mosquitoes too.

Don't forget to bring the plants you want to survive and don't forget about your pet.

This freeze is actually rather late for this region. The first freeze on average is usually the last week of October, so it's about two weeks late.

Get cold, because next week it will be cooler with more freezing temperatures.

The earliest freezing recorded in RDU was on October 2, 1947. The last freeze recorded was December 3, 1931.

PLEASE NOTE: It's not too early for some winter weather tips!
