Sierra County 1 year old with a diagnosis of measles


One-year-old child has a confirmed case of measles in Sierra County. This is the first case of measles in New Mexico for almost five years. The New Mexico Department of Health has not indicated how the baby infected the disease or whether they have received the MMR vaccine. However, medical professionals offer the first dose of vaccine to children between 12 and 15 months of age. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recently completed additional laboratory tests on this case, which have been investigated for more than a week. The Ministry of Health is working with healthcare providers on how to diagnose and respond to possible measles cases. In addition, DOH is to come out of the word about the importance of vaccinations against measles.
