Nicola Maduro said on Friday he had asked the Prosecutor General to apply the maximum 20-year prison sentence to those who comment on acts of vandalism and destabilization.
"I asked the Chief Prosecutor for the maximum punishment for anyone caught up for destabilization should be 20 years because the neighbors want peace," he said during a press conference.
He said the detainees in the last days of the protest are being investigated and taken to court. "All cases of vandalism are investigated, detained, and they will be sued, I asked the attorney general to apply the maximum penalty of 20 years for those who practice vandalism," he said.
Maduro argues that the events that are undergoing a change in public order will have answers from security authorities. "The way to Venezuela can not be a goarimba, Venezuela will not be ruled by criminals or bandits, and with the security forces we will guarantee peace in the country," he said.
