Mercedes completely refreshes its F1 2019 engine

With the premiere of the new W10 in Silverstone on Wednesday, the team confirmed that the car will be equipped with a remarkably upgraded bike.

Andy CowellChief Operating Officer of Mercedes F1 said: "We have made changes to the cooling architecture of the power unit, which we hope will provide an aerodynamic benefit to the car and increase engine performance, so we hope there will be an improvement in the chassis and power aggregate ".

"Right at the heart of the engine is the conversion of the fuel into the combustion chamber's heat chamber and useful work outside the crankshaft."

"We've taken steps in combustion efficiency and in the system ERS, The connection between the turbocharger with MGU-H, the inverter, the cells and MGU-K it makes the entire system now able to work more efficiently and help to deploy energy throughout the race. "

The emphasis on efficiency comes despite the change in F1 regulations until 2019, allowing teams to carry an extra five kilograms of fuel if needed.

More from Mercedes F1:

But Cowell suggested it Mercedes You can not choose to fill up to a maximum of 110 kg due to the weight deficiency that comes with the extra fuel.

"If you have an efficient aerodynamic engine and you are ready to do a bit lift and coastline [técnica para ahorrar combustible], then you have the opportunity to start the race with less than 110 kg, "he said.

"For every 5kg weight you save, you are about two-tenths of a lap faster, so there's a natural reward when you start the race a little lighter."

"There is still a competitive advantage in producing an efficient car – both in the power unit and in aerodynamics – and in intelligent driving to ensure you have a good start at the start of the race and during the race."
