HBO Asia will release its own, HBO GO in Malaysia next month. The Southeast Asian country will be the fifth to receive the streaming service following Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore
In Malaysia, the company launched the service exclusively with Astro, HBO's existing subscription video partner. It will be free for subscribers of the Astro Movie Pack and can be accessed via the HBO GO, Astro GO app or the Apparatus.
HBO GO is an internet-based service that allows subscribers access to HBO's complete library of original versions of all original HBO content – series, films and documentaries – from the US and Asia. It also provides access to all linear channels of HBO Asia. Multilingual subtitles and audio tracks are available for selected series and movies.
"The launch of the online streaming service also extends our long-term partnership with Astro and brings our vast library of content closer to subscribers who can watch it anytime, anywhere through their digital and mobile devices," says Jonathan Spink, CEO of HBO Asia.
"HBO's content has helped engage in on-demand engagement among our affiliates. The latest collaboration also enables Astro to unlock thousands of assets including Hollywood movies and HBO Originals from all over the world on all Astro platforms and soon on HBO GO, "said Agnes Rosario, Director of Content Astro.
